About Car Shipping in Spartanburg

BMW's sole U.S. manufacturing plant operates in Spartanburg, generating a steady flow of automotive industry relocations that drive demand to ship a car to Spartanburg or away from it. Wofford College, Converse University, and USC Upstate also contribute seasonal vehicle shipping needs as students and faculty move in and out each semester. Military families transferring through the Upstate region add further demand for car shipping in Spartanburg SC.

While I-85 runs directly through the city, most carriers serving the Atlanta-to-Charlotte corridor prioritize stops in Greenville, where freight volume is higher. This means Spartanburg auto transport shipments often require extra lead time to match with a carrier already routing through the area. Flexibility on pickup dates improves the chances of securing a competitive rate.

South Carolina's hurricane season from June through November can disrupt carrier schedules statewide, particularly when coastal evacuations redirect equipment away from inland routes. Spartanburg's rural access profile means some pickup locations off the main highway may require meeting the carrier at a nearby truck-accessible point along I-85 or US-29.

What to Expect When You Book

1. Confirm Your Order

Review your quote, confirm vehicle details and dates. No payment collected until a carrier is assigned.

2. Carrier Assignment

We dispatch your order to our carrier network. You receive carrier details, insurance info, and estimated pickup window.

3. Pickup Day

Carrier gives you 24 hours advance notice before pickup. Walk-around inspection together, every mark documented on the Bill of Lading, both parties sign.

4. In Transit

Track your shipment status through your coordinator. We handle any schedule changes or logistics questions.

5. Delivery

24-hour advance notice, then a call when close. Second walk-around inspection — damage during transport is extremely rare, but note any new issues on the Bill of Lading before signing. Once signed without exceptions, claims are extremely difficult to win.

Insurance and Protection

Every carrier in our network is required to carry cargo insurance as a condition of their FMCSA operating authority. Coverage details vary by carrier and are confirmed before your vehicle is dispatched.

At pickup, the driver and you complete a joint vehicle inspection. Every scratch, dent, and existing mark is documented on the Bill of Lading. At delivery, you must carefully compare the vehicle's condition against this record before signing the delivery receipt. If you notice any new damage, note it on the Bill of Lading before you sign. Once you sign the delivery receipt without noting damage, it becomes extremely difficult to file and win a claim. This is the single most important step in protecting yourself during the transport process.

Spartanburg Car Shipping FAQ

How much does it cost to ship a car to or from Spartanburg, South Carolina?

Spartanburg's lower carrier volume is the primary factor influencing pricing. Distance, vehicle size, and seasonal demand along the I-85 corridor also affect rates. BMW plant relocations and university move-in periods can tighten capacity and shift pricing upward. Request a quote for your specific route.

How long does auto transport from Spartanburg take?

Spartanburg auto transport timing depends on route distance and how quickly a carrier heading through the I-85 corridor can be matched to your shipment. The city's smaller market means fewer direct options compared to nearby Greenville or Charlotte. Select your route above for timing details.

Is door-to-door auto transport available in Spartanburg?

Yes on paved, truck-accessible roads. Some rural areas outside Spartanburg's city center may have narrow roads or low-hanging trees that prevent carrier access. In those cases, we coordinate a nearby meeting point—often a parking area along I-85 or a commercial lot in town.

Should I choose open or enclosed transport in Spartanburg?

Open transport works well for most vehicles shipping through Spartanburg and offers broader carrier options along I-85. Enclosed transport suits high-value, classic, or luxury vehicles—particularly relevant given BMW manufacturing traffic in the area. Enclosed availability is more limited than open transport and pricing is typically higher, so book early.

When is the best time to ship a car to or from Spartanburg?

Late winter and early spring tend to offer better scheduling flexibility before university move-in surges and summer relocation peaks. Hurricane season from June through November can periodically affect carrier routing across South Carolina, making fall bookings less predictable for Spartanburg shipments.

Do I need to be present for pickup and delivery?

Someone 18 or older must be present at both ends to authorize the shipment and sign the Bill of Lading. If you cannot attend personally, designate a trusted representative — a friend, family member, or dealership contact — to handle the vehicle inspection and paperwork on your behalf.

Is my vehicle insured during transport?

Yes. Every carrier in our network carries cargo insurance as required by their FMCSA operating authority. Coverage specifics are confirmed before dispatch. At both pickup and delivery, you complete a joint vehicle inspection documented on a Bill of Lading — this protects you if any issue arises.

Can I ship a non-running vehicle to Spartanburg?

Yes, we transport non-running vehicles to Spartanburg. The vehicle needs to roll, steer, and brake for standard loading. Vehicles that cannot roll may require a winch or forklift at additional cost. Mention the vehicle's condition when requesting your quote.

How do I prepare my car for shipping?

Wash the exterior so scratches and dents are visible during inspection. Remove toll transponders, parking passes, and loose interior items. Leave roughly a quarter tank of fuel. Disable aftermarket alarms. Take dated photos of all sides, roof, and odometer before the carrier arrives for your records.

Can I put personal items in my car during transport?

Most carriers allow personal belongings in the trunk or cargo area up to about 100 pounds. Items must stay below the window line and cannot be fragile or high-value. Personal items are not covered under carrier cargo insurance, so keep the vehicle as empty as practical.
